Spore print: Yellow.
Parasitic on the fruit bodies of mushrooms, particularly species of Russula and Lactarius.
Not typically consumed. While not known to be toxic, the altered texture and appearance due to the parasitic mold make it unappetizing.
Varies depending on the size of the host mushroom, but is completely transformed in appearance by the mold.
Cap size varies depending on the host.
Parasitic fungus that infects and transforms the fruiting bodies of its host mushrooms, particularly those in the Russula and Lactarius genera. When infected, the host mushroom is entirely covered by a powdery layer of the mold that is distinctly yellow to greenish-yellow in color. This dramatic color change, combined with the altered texture, makes infected mushrooms easy to identify in the wild.
