Stands out for the milky latex it exudes when the gills or flesh are damaged, which is a characteristic trait of the genus Lactarius. This latex can sometimes have a slightly acrid taste. The mushroom primarily forms a symbiotic relationship with birch trees, helping the trees absorb nutrients while the mushroom gains carbohydrates from the tree.
