Mycena zephirus - Мицена зефировая - Blue Mycena - Blaue Helmlinge 10/9/22
Mycena zephirus is a small, delicate mushroom with a cap diameter of up to 3 cm. Its cap is initially hemispherical and then flattens out with a noticeable bump in the center. The cap surface is smooth and colored blue-gray, fading to grayish-white at the margins. The stem is slender, often curved or twisted, and also has a bluish tint. The gills are widely spaced, grayish-white, and have a slight bluish tint.
Mycena zephirus is found in deciduous and coniferous forests, as well as in grassy areas, from late summer to early winter. It grows solitary or in small groups, and prefers acidic soil. This mushroom has a wide distribution in temperate and boreal regions, including Europe, Asia, and North America.
Chemical analysis has revealed the presence of several compounds in Mycena zephirus, including ergosterol, ergosterol peroxide, and various fatty acids. Additionally, recent studies have shown that this mushroom has potential anticancer and antioxidant properties, as well as a positive effect on immune system function.
The spores of Mycena zephirus are elliptical or almond-shaped, measuring 6-8 µm by 3-4 µm. The spore print is white. This mushroom is not considered edible due to its small size and rarity, as well as its similarity to toxic species in the same genus.
